Monday morning we resumed our work at the church. Painting continued in the side rooms of the lower level of the church. Doors and window trim got painted in accent colors. Outside more foliage and brush where cut off the back walls and fencing to clean up the property perimeter.
Several of us went Harare shopping this morning to find the appropriate lighting and fixtures to light up the cross and the large metal letters that go on the front of the church. In the afternoon the old metal letters where stripped of the old wiring and fixtures and then prepped and painted black. Some letters needed metal work which consisted largely of cutting and bending pieces of old license plates and spewing them to the corners of the letters that were coming apart.
The new lighting system for the cross was installed and tonight after supper was the first time we got to test the design we chose. The cross is now lit and looks very nice, but there is a little more tweaking to do and panels to be put back together before we consider the cross fully refurbished. We purchased LED flood lights to light up the white stone wall behind the raised black metal letters.
Russ made us some excellent lasagna for supper tonight which was accompanied by fresh toasted garlic bread, salad, and several types of pie and chocolate muffins. We were well fed once again today. And tonight several of the team members walked into the Old City to shop and sightsee. The weather today was pleasant but cool, in the 60's. The forecast calls for highs in the low 70's for the rest of our stay, and we will certainly enjoy the warmer weather as we brace for the cold weather we see forecasted for Ohio this weekend when we arrive back home.
